Several months after the 30th anniversary of our cooperage, we admire the elegance and finesse of our 30-year-old barrel, created for the occasion.
This is the reason why we decided to create a new collection of barrels, directly inspired by this creation.
Take part in the experience such as Château Gaby and Château De La Rivière!
Château de La Rivière, the largest vineyard in the Fronsac appellation
Château de La Rivière is the Fronsac’s largest property with nearly 100 hectares of land and 65 hectares of vines. It looks over the Dordogne valley which provides a very favorable natural climatic regulation. The clay-limestone terroir is dominant with two types of exposure: vines located on the limestone and others uphill, exposed to the south, on molasse soils. Château de La Rivière is home to limestone quarries over an area of 8 hectares, ideal for aging wine in barrels and storing bottles.
The grape varieties of the 53 domaine’s parcels puts the emphasis on Merlot, with 7% Cabernet Sauvignon, 7% Cabernet Franc and a small percentage of Malbec, with clay-limestone and gravelly soils.
A wine of great finesse, with acomplex nose with a palette of aromas. The characteristics of the wine are very present and the intensity on beautiful fruity notes.
In the mouth, the promise is kept and the balance respected.
The attack is intense and continues with good volume in the mid-palate, the tannins are fine and already well blended.
The tension brings us to a good length. This vintage invites us to come back in a few months to follow its excellent potential.
Château Gaby, revealing an exceptional terroir
At the heart of Canon-Fronsac appellation, which argilo-calcareous slopes can boast of the same conditions as Saint-Emilion, Château Gaby grapes are mostly located at the top of the hillside, on a subsoil of limestone asters, as well as along the Combe, with a southern exposure.
The combinaison of natural drainage and optimal sun exposure create very favourable conditions for the maturity of each grape variety, in particular Cabernets Francs which take an increasing proportion in the blend.
Château Gaby initiated in 2014 an organic conversion approach which certification from 2018 vintage will represent a significant step.
Inspired by the “30 years” limited edition, Château Gaby used this unique barrel for its prestige “Cuvée Gaby”.
